Sometimes called just Stereograms, but Wikipedia differentiates between the two. Their definition of Stereograms is closer to Stereo Pairs.

As you may have guessed from the above links there are two ways to observe the 3D effect of Autostereograms.  The usual way is wall-eyed or by diverging the eyes. The second way, and sometimes the easiest way, is cross-eyed or by converging the eyes.

This tricks the brain into seeing these 3D images. Give both a try.
